Options trading

Income stream #1 – Options trading

I had always wanted to learn how to trade options. IMHO, I like the leverage that options trading give and it’s also cheaper than stocks, forex and futures. I attended options trading workshop previews, read books about it and I have a very basic idea of how to buy and sell them by doing some paper trades (trading simulation) at optionsxpress.com, but from the trades I made using the simulation… it was pure gamble because I had no system whatsoever…

I had no idea which stocks to choose, when to buy them, when to exit the trades. I just bought whichever stocks I like (and for most trades, it was Google (GOOG)). I did pretty good too. It dawned on me that I really need a system, the profits I made on GOOG was just pure luck and gamble.

I took up a 30-day mentorship at Masters ‘O’ Equity. It was a recommendation by a friend who also took up his course. The mentor is Jason Ng, a Singaporean, who retired at the age of 28 and is now touring the world (the last time I e-mailed him, he was in Korea).

The “Star Trading System” requires the Telechart 2005 software, it’s a subscription based charting software.

When I first purchased the system, I was surprised and a bit angry to see that the manual was only about 30 pages!

“I spent $160 for this!?”

ahh…. but it was the mentorship that was priceless. Jason personally replies his e-mails and gives tutorials every weekday. In the 30 days he mentored me, I learnt more than the books out there. It was also a simple system, he guided me on how to read candlestick charts to find evening and morning stars, determine which stocks are qualified to trade, taught me when to enter trades and at what price I should put my stop loss.

Telechart 2005 from Worden is a required software for you to get started in the Star Options Trading System, this software saves you time and helps you scan all stocks for the ones that meet the system’s criterions.

Patience is a necessity too. With the amount of students Jason has, he takes quite a while to reply your e-mail.

I started paper trading using this options trading system since December 2005. I’ll be posting monthly trades I make, so keep monitoring my blog to see how I make my simulated money grow (if otherwise, learn from my mistakes =) )

If you are interested to start investing in options, I highly recommend you try out Jason’s course at Masters ‘O’ Equity

What file extension am I?

Found out this quiz from another blog, I’m a .ogg …… What a weird file extension, that explains the description I got.

You are .ogg Even though many people consider you cool and happening, a lot still find that you're a bit too weird to hang out with.
Which File Extension are You?

Affiliate Marketing as a Business

I’m lucky to get exposure in the affiliate marketing industry at a young age (thanks to Ken Evoy), but contradictory to the hype about easily making big money online, it’s not as easy as you think. It’s not impossible either and I’m not giving up.

After inspired by the book, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, I took the time to learn about businesses… from network marketing, franchising to investing, but after a few years of learning, you just get sick and tired and just want to start concentrating on a business and start DOING. I ended up choosing affiliate marketing.

If you have no idea what affiliate programs or affiliate marketing is, read Online Business for Everyone.

My Top 8 Reasons for Choosing Affiliate Marketing

1) I don’t need to keep stocks of products which I sell. I can sell anything from anti-depressant pills to jewelry without piling my home with stocks.

2) They are free to join. You start with very little capital investment: a webhosting service and a lot of time to learn.

3) Affiliate marketing allows me to work at home. I don’t like travelling within the city to meet customers and wasting my time in traffic jams.

4) Affiliate marketing also allows me to work anywhere in the world. Since my dream is to travel around the world, I need a business which is mobile and this is probably the best choice. All I need is an internet connection and a computer to work.

5) My customers are worldwide. I can have visitors from Australia, Zimbabwe, China, etc visiting my website.

6) I only do it once. Like this blog, I only write it once. Compared to sales in the offline world, I’d have to repeat most things over and over again to each customer. This is leveraging, one article of mine can be read by tens, hundreds… or maybe thousands of people.

7) I like writing. I’m not an excellent english student, but I like it because I’m more of a visual person than a verbal one.

8) I like the idea of getting an income for things that I love. I can create a site about anything I like: cats, food, paintings, etc. As you can see… I’m a HUGE fan of Robert Kiyosaki, and I made this website with some reviews about his products. I’m also an affiliate of richdad.com, and I’m earning commissions by sharing about his products with others. If you are also a big fan of Robert Kiyosaki’s, join his affiliate program

Make way for the world traveller

My dream is to travel the world. I shall experience the culture and the life of the locals. I shall travel alone: no annoying people telling me that they want to live in luxury hotels instead of budget inns, no shop-a-holics who wants to go shopping in each place they visit. An adventure for me would be to go pick pineapples with the locals, try food which I’ve never tasted before (with reason, of course… none of those live squids in South Korea…. ugh!), use any means of transportation (ox-cart, horses, walk, boats, etc), hop from city to city, work enough to continue my journey. That’s what I call travel!

My 2006 resolution

In 2006, I will

1) Manage my time better.
I want to stop working overtime at my job so that I can have more time to build my own “dream job”.

2) Eat healthier.
Cut down on junk food intake and to cook instead of eating out. Eat my vitamins regularly.

3) Read less, do more.
I spend a lot of time researching on the internet and sometimes I get distracted by all the other interesting things it leads to. I will apply more of what I learn and stop reading the theories.

4) Blog better and more.
I didn’t like it at first, now I do!

5) Start option trading.
I’m currently paper trading while learning from my mentor. I will open an account next year and trade for real.

6) Exercise more.
Exercise daily and get some sunlight.

7) Reset sleeping time
Get up real early, sleep at around 11. I feel like a zombie most of the time when I go to work.

8) Go on holiday somewhere else.
Take short trips, go to places I’m unfamiliar with.

Why I don’t use paid to surf programs…

I have been referred by my friends to join numerous paid-to-surf programs such as cashfiesta, studio traffic, etc. and I always give a straight “no”.

I do not consider this a passive income, it’s just another quickie to make money. As most of you notice at my front page, I’m concentrating on long-term residual income… something that pays me monthly and gives me the security that the cheques are coming. Not something that comes and goes (which I have seen paid-to-surf programs do over the years). Besides, how long are these companies going to last? A lot of paid-to-surf programs doesn’t last because we, smart humans, don’t just click on ads… we invent software to automatically click them. Do you think you will be happy that your website are visited by robots if you are an advertiser on the paid-to-surf program? Of course not!

The new breed of paid-to-surf programs include investment schemes such as High Yield Investment Programs (HYIP). But I’d advise you to stay away from them until you’ve researched about it.

I remember I tried a paid-to-surf program and I didn’t feel that it was a scam but I also didn’t feel that it’s something you can really make money at either. I didn’t try any of the surfing programs since. I also don’t like the paid to read e-mail programs. It took me a loooong, loooong time with these paid-to- program to earn $10. At least my adsense, took about 2 weeks to make my first $10. Frankly speaking, if you want to make “serious” money you either need to get a work at home job or start a work at home business. I have never seen anyone succeed with any of these easy ways to make money. So..

Which Cashflow Game is Better? E-game or Board game?

This is a frequently asked question for every new buyer of Robert Kiyosaki’s Cashflow games. To make it easy for you to decide, I have prepared a brief list of pros and cons for both versions of the e-game.

Cashflow 101 E-game – Click for our comprehensive review | Click to buy

Pros

  1. No fumbling with pencils and erasers
  2. No calculators necessary
  3. Play with computers when you can’t find any friends to play with
  4. Animated characters to keep you entertained
  5. Play over the internet with players from all around the world

Cons

  1. Can’t create your own rules
  2. Repetitive animation and endless clicking
  3. Only limited to auction and sales of deals to other players
  4. No local area network gaming available, play on same computer with different players if you decide not to opt for the internet multi-playing subscription
  5. Not given a choice of whether to stay in the rat race

Cashflow Board Game – Click for our comprehensive review | Click to buy

Pros

  1. Extremely flexible because you can create your own rules to increase difficulty
  2. You learn faster with human interaction
  3. Network with same-minded people
  4. Unlimited ways to create or sell deals, e.g. offering a player a loan with interest less than the bank’s thus getting a passive income from the interest
  5. You can choose to play the rat race longer

Cons

  1. Have to juggle between calculator, pencil and dice within the timeframe given

Still can’t decide?
Most of the time, I advise people to buy the e-game and go for cashflow circles/gatherings instead. When you are alone, you still have your e-game… when you want to network with different people, you can just attend a cashflow gathering in your area. E-game is not only cheaper but also teaches the most basic rules effectively.
